North Carrolton in Carroll County is Mayor Ken Strachan lifelong residency. He is a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church.  He began his public service career as the elected Mayor of North Carrollton, June 5, 2001, 81% of the vote at the age of 26 in the General election.  He was the 2nd youngest Mayor in the State of MS at that time.  He is now serving his third non-consecutive term as Mayor of North Carrollton.  Mayor Strachan has had a long history with North Carrollton and Carroll County. He served as Mayor from 2001- 2005, as a licensed Funeral Director he was elected to he countywide position of Carroll County Coroner/Medical Examiner Investigator in 2003 and served three terms (2004-2016).   He served as a North Carrollton Election Commissioner from 2007-2016; as North Carrollton's Alderman in 2016-2018.  He was  elected as Mayor and served a second term in 2018, followed by being re-elected as Mayor in 2021.

 

Mayor Strachan was appointed by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors as Emergency Management/Civil Defense Director/E-911 Coordinator in 2019 and currently holds the position.  Through his service he led the efforts for the tourism funding that began in 2019, when it was approved by the voters of North Carrollton with over 85% of the vote.  The Tourism funds has resulted in thousands of dollars in improvements for our town from beautification to new sidewalks.  Including welcome banners and signs. Mayor Strachan in 2018, while serving as an Alderman, designed the town flag that has "in God We Trust, which is display at the old well and is also displayed in the boardroom.  The signage, "In God We Trust" has been placed throughout the town, including on the parking lot signs. Under Mayor Strachan's leadership in 2020 and 2021, North Carrollton was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $449,000.  Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) North Carrollton was allocated $323,000 for sewer improvements.  These two grant awards resulted in the larges sewer improvement for North Carrollton in modern times.   The list in endless regarding the impact Mayor Strachan has had on the Town of North Carrollton (Please see Appendix A for more accomplishments and improvements made to the Town of North Carrollton under May0r Strachan's leadership).
