Mayor Ken Strachan Accomplishments
Mayor Ken Strachan's accomplishments with the support of the Board of Alderman and Administrative staff.
COVID-19
As Mayor and Carroll County Emergency Management Director he lead the efforts in the COVID-19 pandemic for our area, with making supplies available to the public and providing documentation to county and municipal officials.
Small Municipal Grants
Under Strachan's leadership, North Carrollton was awarded $100,00 in 2021 that began the sidewalk project, that has replaced side walks that were over 70 years old. These sidewalks are in compliance with the American Disabilities Act which are handicap accessible. This effort opened doors for people with disabilities across North Carrollton. These efforts continues with tourism funding.
Infrastructure Modernization Act
Under Strachan's leadership, North Carrollton began participating in the infrastructure modernization act that send revenues back to North Carrollton from internet sales. Through these efforts, North Carrollton has been able to invest in new culverts to improve drainage, decorative stop and street signs, striping for the streets and handicap parking.
MDOT
Under Strachan's leadership, North Carrollton was awarded a grant through MDOT in the amount of $358,000 for the Big Sand Recreational park that will begin construction in 2024. Through this effort, we will beautify the Town and be a significant benefit to the Tabernacle and landmark Big Sand Creek area, while increasing tourism. This will follow the completion of the new Big Sand Creek Bridge in 2023.
Emergency Watershed
Under Mayor Strachan's leadership, the Town has been awarded $258,000 Emergency watershed protection funding to reconstruct Mill Drive from the washout in 2023. Construction will begin in the late summer of 2024.
MML
Mayor Strachan has served on the Mississippi Municipal League Board of Directors since 2018 and was the MML Education Chairman of the 2022-2023 term. The efforts of Mayor Strachan to bring funding to North Carrollton has resulted in no mileage increase with North Carrollton having the lowest property tax in the area. These efforts have resulted in North Carrollton being recognized statewide winning the Mississippi Municipal League Planning and Economic Development Award for towns 10,000 and less in 2021 and again in 2023.
